Built during the 1930s, the Garden district of Youngstown was once a part of the Schenley neighborhood. The homes in this restful neighborhood are an affordable mix of modern and historic, pre-war housing. The Garden District is a predominantly single-family neighborhood. A quiet neighborhood with ample green space, this section of Youngstown is in close proximity to the Mill Creek Park Fellows Riverside Gardens. The neighborhood is situated at an advantageous location with Downtown Youngstown within walking distance and I-680 in close proximity. Mahoning Avenue offers many restaurants and places to shop.

Types of Homes

The Garden District is home to a mixture of historic, pre-war houses and modern style homes. The neighborhood’s oldest style homes range from the obvious Victorian to the classic American Foursquare. American Colonial style houses are a staple in the United States, and the Garden District is no exception as Cape Cod and Dutch Colonial architecture are speckled throughout the neighborhood. Modern classics such as the Bungalow, Ranch, and Neo-Eclectic style houses balance out the feel of the neighborhood, giving the Garden District a modern twist to a historic neighborhood.

In City:

NOTE: A number of surrounding communities have open enrollment in their school district. These communities offer private school options, as well. This option is a consideration while living in the City of Youngstown because there is virtually no traffic congestion in the region.

Some schools on this list might offer curriculum for children with special needs. Nevertheless, additional schools do exist in the City and surrounding communities that specialize in providing such services.
